Frequently Asked Questions

Some patients with concerns about having a fleshy neck, “jowls,” platysma or neck “banding,” or a “turkey wattle” can benefit from this procedure. In some cases, the platysma muscle of the neck is adjusted and tightened if it has begun to separate and sag.
A patient must be in good health both mentally and physically before undergoing this procedure. An ideal candidate is also under the age of 70, does not smoke and has realistic expectations about what is possible with this specific surgery.
The Issues Directly Address By A Neck Lift Include:
- Neck folds
- Neckbands
- Sagging or excess skin
- Excess neck and/or lower face fat
- The “turkey wattle” effect
Younger Patients Are Pursuing This Procedure
Platysmaplasty is not just an option for one age group. In fact, many younger people also undergo platysmaplasty. Many of our patients who have undergone neck lifts are often thought to have “lost a lot of weight” or “toned up” rather than having had surgery.

The average neck lift in Columbus, Ohio costs between $8,000 – $9,000. This is the total cost associated with the entire procedure, including anesthesia costs, OR fees, post-operation recovery care, etc. The cost variation depends on the skill and experience of the surgeon, along with the exact concerns the patient is looking to address.
-
The neck lift is usually separated into two parts: excess skin removal and the removal/augmentation of the neck muscles. We may also employ liposuction to remove excess fat from the neck to help improve the cosmetic outcomes of the procedure.
Most neck lifts are outpatient operations and take between two to three hours. Patients can suggest their preferred sedation method (local anesthesia or general), but the final decision is likely to be up to the surgeon.
-
The neck lift procedure does not directly correct skin laxity above the jawline. It can help correct some laxity around the jowls. Our neck lift patients often combine their procedure with a surgical facelift or Morpheus8 skin tightening for the face.
While some people only need a neck lift, and not a full facelift, the combination of the two can truly make a difference, giving you a younger and refreshed look.
Our Nonsurgical Facial Skin Tightening Procedures Include
- Morpheus8
- Microneedling
- Halo laser resurfacing
- Broadband Light (BBL) laser therapy

The 24-hour usage of a compression garment is the key to a successful recovery. After about two weeks, our team post-surgical team may suggest that the patient only uses their compression garment at night. Patients can also apply cold compresses and keep the head elevated for the first two days to minimize swelling.
After the surgical neck lift, we advise patients to do their best to keep the head still and avoid twisting, turning and other strains for the first few days.
Sutures are typically removed after one week, while swelling and bruising may last up to 10 days. Most patients are able to return to work and resume normal daily activities within two weeks. However, patients should avoid strenuous exercise for four to six weeks.

Dr. Sieffert is incredibly meticulous with her incisions. The exact location of the incision will depend on your unique anatomy, but they are most often behind the ears and under the chin. Any incision has the opportunity to scar, but these scars will be discreet and will fade over time. We also offer a number of scar-reducing treatments to minimize their appearance.

In our experience, the results from a surgical neck lift can be permanent. Factors that can impact long-term results include lifestyle, activity level, genetics and a patient’s baseline age.
